19th Wole Soyinka Award
for Investigative Reporting
All professional Nigerian journalists above the age of 18 years old, or a team of journalists, whether full-time or part-time are eligible to apply for Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting (WSAIR). However, reporters who have won the award on three occasions are ineligible to apply.
The award is opened for submission from Friday, 4 October to Thursday, 24 October 2024
The deadline for submission of all entries is Thursday, 24 October 2024 by 4.00pm WAT. Only entries received by this date will be treated.
Entries will only be accepted for all categories of the award through an online application portal this year. Hard copy submissions will not be accepted.
All entries must have been published between 4 October 2023 and 3 October 2024 with focus on public and or corporate corruption, human rights violation, and failure of regulatory agencies.
The award accepts entries from six categories— print, television, radio, photo, editorial cartoon and online.
Scan a clear, original print copy of your entry in PDF format and upload on the online application portal. You can also submit an e-paper of the published work (Click here to see a sample).
Radio and TV entries can be uploaded through Soundcloud and YouTube respectively alongside their weblinks. Submitted entries must have a cue-in and cue-out linked to the presenter with proof of date and time of airing as documented in the day’s bulletin of the media house
SoundCloud is an online audio distribution platform for sharing created audio.
YouTube is an online video sharing platform.
Upload a clear, original scanned PDF copy of the full page of your photo publication with evidence of publication date. E-copies are also encouraged (Click here to see a sample). For online publications, the weblink for published work must be provided.

WSCIJ will only provide feedback to successful entries.
You can only submit a maximum of two entries across all categories of the award.
Judges were selected based on their experience, ethical soundness, professionalism and understanding of investigative reporting.
Entries are judged on the quality of investigation, evidence, human rights elements, ethical reportage, individual creativity, public interest, impact and quality of presentation by the award panel of judges.
