Leading broadcast historian and music critic, Benson Idonije, received the life-time award for media excellence in 2012. In choosing Benson Idonije for the award, the committee paid homage to his life’s work in media history, stressing his special imprint in bringing the meaning of events, personages, and institutions in our broadcast corridor to clarity and purpose.
The board noted that at his ripe age of seventy, Mr. Idonije remains the only newspaper content contributor who offers without fail, three articles of research and depth every week, something he has done for the past quarter of a decade. A younger generation and grateful followers of his illustrious tradition salute and honour him, so also the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism through the Lifetime Award for Media Excellence.
