Mallam Adamu Ciroma is a veteran journalist, politician, banker and technocrat. He was born on 20th November, 1934. Apart from Mallam Ciroma’s service in different capacities in the public service as a Director and later Governor of the Central Bank in 1976; as Minister in the Ministries of Industry, Agriculture and Finance, he is also known and well respected as a formidable force in the development of journalism in Northern Nigeria and Nigeria as a whole.
He is particularly responsible for the rise of the New Nigerian Newspaper of Northern Nigeria in the sixties, which he built to become the second largest circulating newspaper in the country. He positioned the newspaper to promote socio-economic growth; and ensured the paper upheld its vision to serve as a voice for the common man; to ease the masses from illiteracy and injustice.
He injected discipline, and the love for professional ethics in the newsroom, virtues which put him at loggerheads with the government of the time but won him several acclaim from the public, and budding journalists.
