Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, a lawyer and civil rights advocate, is the Executive Director of the Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre (WARDC), a non-governmental organisation which focuses on the promotion of women’s rights, governance, human rights and the rule of law. In the viral case of sex-for-grade involving one Monica Osagie and Professor Richard Akindele at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, she represented the survivor.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in law from Obafemi Awolowo University, a master’s degree in international human rights law from the University of Notre Dame, USA and a doctorate from the University of London with a specialisation in women peace and security. The former Public Relations Officer of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife Students Union Government (SUG), chairs the Transition Monitoring Group (TMG), a coalition of 400 civil society organisations. She also represents the southwest zone and the Director Treasury and Finance on the board of West Africa Network for Peacebuilding Nigeria (WANEP-Nigeria), a platform for collaborative peacebuilding for conflict transformation and development in Nigeria.
