A Nigerian lawyer, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and human rights activist, Mr Femi Falana is the lead partner at Falana and Falana Chambers, a leading law firm focused on constitutional law and human rights services. A former President of the West African Bar Association, under whose leadership, amendments to the protocol on human rights violations allowed individuals as well as countries and regions to access justice at the ECOWAS Court.
Mr Femi Falana has championed free legal support to the disadvantaged and poor in the society. He is the Editor-in-Chief, Weekly Report of Nigeria, President, West African Bar Association, member, Nigeria Bar Association, Pan African Lawyers Union and honorary member of the American Bar Association.
He has authored several publications and is a recipient of national and international awards such as the Defender of the Year Award, Ogboni Merit Award in 2002, Dr Kwame Nkrumah Leadership Award, Bernard Simon Memorial Award for the advancement of human rights. He was responsible for the release of journalist and founder of online newspaper, Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, and Jones Abiri, editor and publisher of the Source Newspaper who were detailed by Nigeria’s State Security Service.
